150th Anniversary

This year will be a very special milestone for the FBC Family of Faith. God has blessed FBC with 150 years of ministry.
The Anniversary Team has chosen a theme: Psalms 78:4, “We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.” Rooted in the Past, Growing into the Future.
Please save these dates for the Anniversary Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, October 19-20. Several events are being planned for these days and the hope is many former members, pastors and friends will be coming to Murphysboro to be a part of the celebration.
The first item being planned is the 150th Anniversary Edition of the All Church Pictorial Directory. Lifetouch will be here on Tuesday-Thursday, March 5th, 6th, and 7th from 2-9:00 pm. This is a perfect opportunity to have a family portrait taken. The Directory Team will be in contact by letter and will be scheduling appointments by phone in February.
Be sure to watch the website, bulletins and the “Bapties” for more details on the upcoming 150th Anniversary Celebration as they become available.

2019 Pictorial Directory

This fall, October 19-20, FBC will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary with a weekend filled with great events. The Anniversary Team would also like to have a special addition pictorial directory. Lifetouch photographers will be at FBC Tuesday-Thursday, March 5th-7th, from 2-9:00 pm to take photos of all our family of faith. Appointments can now be scheduled by contacting the church office or through the link below. The link will take you to the sign up schedule. You can schedule or if needed change it. If you have problems signing up, please feel free to contact the church office.

2019 Contribution Envelopes

The 2019 contribution envelopes are available for pick up in the church parlor. If you cannot find a box designated for you and/or would like to have a set, please contact Grant Kelley or the church office.

Volunteers Needed

The food pantry is in need of volunteers to do the many tasks that need to be done. Just two or three hours, one day a week would be helpful. Your time and generosity will be a blessing as well as a wonderful gift to someone less fortunate. FBC Murphy is working at the food pantry weekly. If you are interested in helping, contact Megan Austin at 618-684-8258.

Wednesday Night Activities

It all starts with FBC Kids and Crossfire at 3:30 pm. All children from Kindergarten – 5th grade are welcome to be a part of the FBC Kids Club from 3:30-6:00 pm, which offers snacks, homework, Bible stories and dinner. Transportation is provided from the two Murphysboro grade schools by contacting the school and Barb Troutman. Crossfire Middle School Youth is from 3:30-5:30 pm. The Family Dinner starts at 5:00 pm with dinner for everyone. Family Dinners take a break during the summer. Crossfire High School Youth and Bible Study with Pastor both start at 6:00 pm. Choir rehearsal begins at 7:15. Invite your family friends and neighbors! There is something for all ages here at FBC on Wednesday nights.

Wednesday Dinners needs Volunteers

FBC Kids Club has approximately 30-40 kids every week. Feeding this group has become an important part of our ministry. There are 35-40 adults, 30-40 children and 25-35 youth who are all Wednesday night regulars. Simple and easily prepared foods are prepared (kids like simple foods). Would you please prayerfully consider volunteering to be a part of our kitchen crew one Wednesday a month? If you would like to discuss where you could help, have questions, or would like to volunteer, please contact Christina Smith (519-0829) or Pastor Shaker.

Fellowship Hall

The fellowship hall has some issues.

Problem: The fellowship hall flooring is old asbestos type linoleum product that is beginning to wear very thin. They will no longer be able to strip the wax off without potentially breaking through the protective sheeting into the asbestos materials. This could and would present a health hazard. The floors can continue to be waxed but once the wax builds back up the floor will constantly look dingy and dirty. Not an inviting site.
Solutions: Sealing and covering the old flooring with new flooring. Looking at industrial strength flooring material that is guaranteed to last at least 30 years. Considering both tile type flooring for Fellowship Hall and lower entry ways and carpet for the classrooms.

Problem: The classroom doors in the fellowship hall are deteriorated beyond repair. Rodney Brown has worked on the doors and has told council members there is nothing more he can do to repair them. The doors are cracking, the bottoms are showing some rot, and it takes three people to move them. Concerns are that someone who doesn’t know what they are doing tries to move the doors they could be seriously injured. We are most concerned for our children and their fingers.
Solution: Replace the doors with more modern, sound proof, easy to move door systems. While costly, these doors if taken care of should last many years into the future plus will help with the external noise issues. (The floors and doors are over 90 years old. They have served FBC well!)

Intervarsity Dinners

FBC will be preparing a meal for the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at SIU Carbondale on the last Friday of each month. If you would like to help, please contact Rachel Edgar at 201-0698 or Kristy Dunning at 534-3054.
